I have just carried out some panel repairs on an mgb that im restoring (slowly) but im wondering what to do with the panels that i have plug welded before i apply any paint, should i seal the flangers against water ingress and if so with what, i have seen brush on seam sealer and the stuff in the tube that you apply with a mastic gun but never having used any i could do with some advice, many thanks in advance, Vin

Some people use weld-through primer, then seam-seal after melting the bits together. Could prime the lot, then whizz bits clean where welds will go. Either brush or tube sealer will do, it's a question of size/area and such, for which one suits best.
With brushable sealer, a cut-down brush seems nicer to use. The finish can be smoothed with panel wipe, I've used white spirit as well (feels kind of oily, slower to evaporate). Some people use thinners, which can be OK too depending what other paints are nearby.
