there's a readily available adaptor steps up from the (?) 4mm white pipe upto the standard regulator output (my gasman gave me one free whet irented the bottle.....)

Without stating the obvious, there's no problems running a full size cylinder off any machine as long as it can be supported safely.
Weldequip can supply you with the full connection kit, hose and reg, for whichever type of gas you're intending to use. (The fittings are different for CO2 and Ar/CO2, one is a male thread, the other is female though regulators are often supplied with adapters to enable the use of either.)
