I saw these in an old brochure for a local machine tool manufacturer.
now you might think that they arn't very portable, because they wont fit into your toolbag (or even van), but they are as they they have a hook on the top of the column to move them about with the use of a crane.

guess it would be rude not to scan another couple of pages as my scanner is connected to my laptop
so they are from Kitchen and Wade, I saw an old guy I knew who used to work there last weekend, it made his day when I showed him the brochure, and I had trouble getting it back off him, but I did tell him that I would copy it for him. I would have given him the brochure but its one I bought to donate to the local industrial museum.
they were taken over by Asquith's (also from Halifax) who are pretty well known for their drills. I posted a few pages from on of their 1920's brochures here
