portable gas fire issue your assistance please

Hi everyone
Well this afternoons mission is causing me problems. We have a flavel thurcroft portable gas heater, the flame sensor packed up on it so it wouldn't stay lit so I ordered the replacement part by number and it came (fifty quid mind) well fitted it and sorted the sensor problem but! The pilot flame keeps jumping away from the end of the tube and roaring, now I thought it was just because it was new and air was exiting but it is still doing it. I have tried all the usual tricks maybe dust or blocked jet so air line through the jet ect still not playing! Your thoughts please before I bite the bullet and take it for repair?!

Mm I couldn't see any adjustmet options on the control valve I did think that myself too damn thing!

Could be that the pilot hole is undersized or not drilled cleanly, you could run the appropriate sized tip file through.

Have you tried a different regulator on the bottle ?

thtas too moch gas leaving the pilot. Is there a nozzle that can be swapped?

Flame lift off is over gassed as said above, the adjustment screw may be tiny, or it may be a later part that has a different pilot jet to the original

Hi guys had a long day all of the suggestions you have made are all possibilities! Luckily I still have the old bits I took off so I will check that and then try the regulator and then failing that it's going to see a person far more qualified in gas than I am I will report back when I have found out what it was. When you say flame sensor , do you mean the thermocouple , surely that's all you needed to buy , and it should'nt be £50 pounds worth ! you bought the whole assembly , valve and electrode . Did you stipulate it was for propane , maybe they sent natural gas valve the nozzles are different ! that's just a guess mind !

Yeah I guess your right , unless the valve is used in other fires , I'm thinking along the lines of cookers and boilers if you get one and say its for propane they generally just change the nozzles !

@Tigman yeas I ordered it by part number from the guide I got with the fire so unless they had some numpty pick it wrong it should be the same and certainly looks identical, just looked at the holes and they look identical size too! I thought I had a spare reg somewhere but after 20mins of searching it hasn't turned up!

It looks like an FSD, they come all in one unit and the thermocouple can't be swapped on its own

^^^^^ it is indeed one of those and I can't swap the pilot easily without it being noticed because of the way it's made, it's crimped in so I would have to savage out one side to swap it On the plus side I still have the receipt so I will take it back and get them to sort me another one!
