Back to same scenario again today. Trying to get decent results out of the sealey with gasless wire and failing miserably. Its horrifically bad. I though my other one was decent after the gas conversion until I blew it up and then it was nicked. Since then I have been borrowing a snap on 150 set and got lovely welds with it. Now I'm back to a mightymig100 and want to throw it in the river.
So, out of the machines mentioned above, which do we all think is best?
I want portability, but am not ruling out the portamig as i feel its size is a minor price to pay for such a quality machine, however out of the 3 it is the only tranny machine and doesn't offer stick welding ability.
Then there are the 2 inverters which both offer the same amps give or take 5, both offer stick welding ability and both are capably of tig, however the r-tech is scratch start, the ifl is lift arc. Neither are ac though so limited to steels but I realise for around 500 quid I wont get an ac set or hf start so I'm not too bothered about that.
Tig is a minor detail in the grand scheme of things, what I need most is mig and stick as my welding is mostly either mig below 2mm or stick above 5mm.
So I guess that rules out the portamig unless I buy an inverter stick set too which I cant afford.
I have been asked to quote a custom driveway gate for a customer I am currently designing a patio for so will need something soon as this 100amp gasless just wont cope with a gate. I don't know how I ever made anything with my other one.
