Possible blasting media group buy in London/M25 area?

Apologies to the moderation staff if this is in the wrong section or against forum policy.

I'm sure that many people have been looking to buy a small quantity of blasting media for DIY use, but are unable to find a supplier around the London area. The cost of postage for small quantities is very expensive, with the only other option buying a bulk amount. Unfortunately for our DIY needs, we only need a few bags (around 5-10) and not 40.

Therefore I was thinking that it might be possible to sort some kind of group buy? Stacey Processing sells 40 25kg bags of crush glass media for £150 delivered. So that works out to only £3.75 a bag! If we get enough interest I could order the 40 bags and people that are interested could collect it from me? I am located in Potters Bar, just off the M25.

+1 That way they charge carriage at cost. Cheaper still if you buy a bulk (1 ton) bag. Mine was delivered on a large curtain-sider with a tail lift. I had to get neighbours to shift their cars so he could get through.

If I get enough people interested I will give them a call and see if they can shift on their price. I presume they charge extra through ebay to over the ebay/paypal costs.

Yep it is cheaper in a 1 tonne bag, but I need them in individual 25kg bags so that it can easily be splitted.

Might be worth pointing out to anyone who fancies a bit of DIY glass-bead blasting in their shed that the glass particles are the tiniest things known to man and will pass through the finest of filters... you REALLY don't want to be breathing this stuff. We've just decommissioned our glass bead cabinet at work as the company didn't want to invest in the dedicated extractor and filters that would be needed in order to get through the appropriate H&S hoops - not worth it for the piddling amount we ever used it.

interesting .are we talking about bead blasting with glass beads or shotblasting with crushed glass .personaly whatever i use in my cabinet silica or not i just extract using a woodchipper direct outside without filter as its not getting recirculated in a building

Why not just use kiln dried sand, it's cheap as chips, and wear a mask, silicatosis is a serious problem, just a fan to suck the dust outside is fine
