pot blaster video

With the help from forum members i have my little pot blaster up and running with it's modifications.
The short video shows it stripping paint from a landy body, though the blast at the bottom of the pot was a bit damp which made it splutter for a bit before it levelled out
It run's about 110 / 115psi with a 6mm nozzle, which works well for my purpose

From my limited Knowledge, you only never 40-60psi to run a Pot, anything more is a waste. Other than that nice work

Dr Shox - I find my pot runs best at about 90 psi, though it will work down to 12.

I tend to do small pieces, so any more pressure will blow the bits away!

Not much hope with my single phase Hydrovane then

It's just that I've been wondering about setting up some kind of blasting system for 'finishing' metal sculpture.

I'd kill for that amount of air. Even still it's FAD that you need (not that you do) for blasting, so 40-60psi is ball park, any more than that and you will damage panels, through heat and shear pressure

It is, useful, it's just that you don't need as much pressure.

Why not have a play around with the pressures and report back

the optimum presure for blasting with a 6mm nozzle is betwen 80 and 90 psi . i have a 90cfm comp when loaded and grit running the comp doesnt run at full whack. the minimum cfm is 60 for the 6mm jet . lower presures can be used on pannels ect but it ist realy economical to do so as u need finer grit 0.75 to 1mm supafine is best i use up to 1.5mm grit ideal for rusted parts wheels ect but isnt suitable for pannels . u could go the next size nozzle up greyhound running a 130 pump it all depends on your requirements . if your cleaning wagon chassis and buildings a larger jet is needed if not the 6mm will be fine just looked at the video ease off on the grit flow a bit u only need one third grit 3/4 air /its wastefull to push 2 much through and doesnt cut eficiently. it actualy slows the velocity down

in that video your grit has too much flow which is backed up by the chugging noise, it will blast more effective if you reduce the flow of grit. it starts to sound better at around 30 secs in

It's the dog's ba11s and should last a long time.

Bill, it's an Ingersoll rand road comp with an air cooled deuz engine, plenty of them about for under £500

The static pressure at my regulator was just under 100 psi, I'm not sure what it was with pot running. By the time I've started blasting I can't read the gauge. (It's a black needle against a black background, the glass is scratched, the light's poor and there's a lot of dust!)

If I turn the static pressure down to 90 psi performance drops off.

There is about 1 metre of 10mm pipe between the pot and the gauge.
