Potentially daft fitting question

Hi Guys,

Question, i just bought a devilbiss GTi Pro spray gun and was looking to get a regulator for it, not wanting to spend 60 on a Devilbiss one there is a clarke one for much cheaper, now the question, on the devilbiss website it says my air input is 1/4" universal but the clarke regulator says 1/4" BSP, will this fit?

To confuse me even more the website I got the gun from lists the air input as 1/4" BSP universal.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there a difference though between universal and BSP, you would think universal would mean it would work with anything but wanted to check.

it probably says universal because its very widely used on compressed air fittings.
threaded fiitings cant be universal as such because of how many threads per inch and the pitch of the thread so the advert is a little misleading

As The Snooper says, most fittings are BSP, (British Standard Pipe) American ones may be NPT (National Pipe Thread). Not sure what they mean by universal, AFAIK there is no such thread, I think they're trying to say BSP is universally used throughout the world.

Nip down to Machine mart and buy a fitting with a 1/4 bsp thread on it and see if it fits, if not it will come in handy one day!

I would also add that I haven't had much luck with Clarke regulators, I've had good ones from Thorite and Duncan Rogers. Have a look in the Links section for links (!)

It says across the entire devilbiss range that it's 1/4" universal, i might give the clarke regulator a go, it's worth it for the sake of a tenner

Looking at the Devilbiss site the thread could one of 2 things, the flat seat male part of a threaded collar type coupling, or just a 1/4" male thread. If it is just a thread it will be 1/4 BSP/NPT, which at that size are almost identical.
Best thing to do is fit the male of a quick release coupling on that so you can connect and disconnect from your airline easily, the airline would have the female part so that when you disconnect the gun the airline is sealed.

ot it comes with a uni/euro airline fitting,.... larger bore than PCL

I got some quick release fittings today they were 1/4" BSP and it all connected together fine.
