Powder coating advice needed

Thinking about getting the alloy front crossmember from a Sierra XR4x4 powder coated but am wondering if the process will weaken or otherwise cause damage to the casting in any way.

This is a structural part to which the engine, steering and front suspension are all fixed and then it is bolted up to the front chassis rails.

Should I or shouldn't I ?

Ah the sierra 4x4, one of the best cars that I have owned, powder coating wont do it any harm, but you will have to clean out the bolt holes and tap out any threaded holes, please post photos as it sounds like a proper renovation job

You can mask off the bits you don't want coating.

A customer came into today with a brake drum I'd blasted for him, he'd had it powder coated but didn't mask off the friction surface. The coating firm coated the whole lot and now I've got to get it off again!

But they still get it wrong, I blanked off some taper roller outer races in blind holes on a swingarm, they managed to remove the blanking plates with shotblaster or bad handling and coated everything - then tried to tell me powder coating was strong enough to run the bearings in!! needless to say, the air turned blue.
Took me ages with a die grinder to split the tracks without damaging the hole.

Is it OK to get things like anti-roll bars & coil springs shot blasted & powder coated ?

Hopefully yes but I just thought I'd ask in case there are issues with flexing metal and coating cracking / peeling off.

Otherwise will just get shot blasted and repainted.

Grit blasting would leave sharp indents in coil springs and cause them to fail. Shot blasting (assuming a rounded metal ball shot is used) would be OK as it won't leave the indents - just be sure that's what's being done.

Powder coat is like plastic, so no flexibility issues.
