Power supply for a 2 post lift

I'm about to have all the electrical services installed into a brand new workshop I have built and in the not too distant future I will be installing a new 2 post vehicle lift. The power supply will be single phase dedicated circuit and I intend to have a 16 amp "ceeform" wall socket for the lift. A couple of questions to those who know.

1. Any issues with 16 amp sockets or would a 13 amp 3 pin be adequate?
2. Position? Which ever connector I go with do I mount the socket above head height so I don't trip on a trailing cable or is the trailing cable a consequence of the lift being installed due to the length of the cable and motor postion. The lift will be postioned about 600-800mm from the wall where I plan to run the cable conduit and socket.

Any assitance at this stage would be appreciated. I start on Monday.

Put a length of Unistrut upright next to the post with the lift motor then a length across to the wall well above head height. Run conduit or SWA on the unistrut to either your 16A ceeform socket or a 20Amp isolator.

The above is a guess based the information provided.

+1 As above do you have a link to your lift?
In not every time to trip on the wire or want to push a jack or tool cart over the wire you will regret it. It may be worth adding a socket for power tools or lighting as well as fixed airline if you often use air tools.

Have the consideration of any E stops bean thought about?

Odd question, but with mine, on a dedicated 16a Supply was we needed E stops.

I wouldn't fix conduit or unistrut to the lift and wall, the lift posts need to move a little, normally the lean out a little, then as you lift they lean in so they're vertical (they're made to do that, in professional garages it's one of the things insurance inspectors check)

just run the wire up the post, clip it or cable tie it on, then off to the wall and have the socket at the right height

other option is to go straight up to the roof and leave a little slack on the cable


13amp 3 pin plug is the best bet, I've fitted one 2 poster and sean a few others, they all has 13amp 3pin plugs on them... with a 16amp plug there's no fuse in the plug, so you need to make sure there's a fuse on the lift itself and that the cable/connections are all rated for over 16amp

I have the second opinion I needed from you all. The flexibility I'm building in is a 50mm x 50mm trunking around the vehicle bay so I can drop conduit down from it and terminate in the socket of choice. It was the height I needed to
consider and you all agree with my
I'thoughts that it is best above the head and out the way. I have both sockets so will decide when I install but can change easily enough once I get the lift. I hadn't considered an E stop so food for thought.
