Does anyone know how strong mobility scooter chassis are ?
I have an idea for making a powered tool chest/ top box mover thingy and thought about using a mobility scooter as they have the tyres it would need to move over a grassed area to get to my shed.

Well after seeing the rather large woman down the road on her's and without going into derogatory weight comments I would say they are VERY strong.

Could be an interesting project.

Most have a max SWL of 20 stone.
Just have to be a wee bit careful about the centre of gravity.
The chassis on the one my late mrs had was 40 x 20 box .

Have fun it sounds a good project.

I think that the chest and top box weight about 90kg when empty, could double that when filled with tools
It would only be carrying the boxes not me as well.

Like any consumer item; there are ranges of mobility scooters. They go from lightweight machines that can be disassembled in seconds to fit in the boot of a small car to huge on/off road machines weighing a couple of hundred kilos. The lighter ones tend to have only 3 wheels or (almost as bad for stability) 2 close-coupled wheels on the front. On average they start at a load capacity of 120 kilos and can go up to 220 kilos - usually combined with ranges of 20 - 55 miles. The least useful are the 'indoors only' ones which can go as low as 100 kilos and under 6 miles range, but they are hard to come by and hardly worth the bother of considering for most people. Having tiny, solid tyres they are crap on soft ground and can barely cope with even short grass.

As said; The centre of gravity can be quite low when empty, but that usually is overcome once the passenger plonks his/her big carcass on the seat. If you intend to make use of the motor a motorised wheelchair might be more useful as many models have remote controls on the rear pusher handles, while ordinary scooters require to be steered through the front handlebars.

You mean like the foul mouthed fat knacker drug dealing benefit fraudster that lives over the road from me? If her stolen scooter will drag her lardy **** into the next town to collect her drugs a tool chest and cabinet should be a walk in the park.
