Pressure pot setup

I have got my eBay sand blasting pressure pot and I am using j blast supafine through a 2.5 tip with a 3hp 14cfm compressor. My first impression is that I am very impressed! All the paint and rust is coming off straight away!

Just wondering what are the idea settings for the sandblaster? I have the air inlet fully open, the choke valve fully open, and the grit valve open around half way open, is this ideal? Also what psi should I set on my regulator for sheet metal work?

I generally set the bottom valve so that you can just see the media stream coming out of the nozzle.

Be very careful on sheet metal, there's quite a bit of heat generated by blasting, use new grit and hold the nozzle at a shallow angle to the workpiece.

Pressure varies, 90 psi will be fine for most things, although the pot will work down to 40 psi.

As rtbcomp says, 90psi. I aim for 100-110psi at the compressor working on the assumption that the nozzle will be at 90psi due to losses down the hoses.

The more pressure you have then the greater efficiency you have with the grit. Obviously on little delicate jobs it may be easier to turn down the pressure, but for almost everything I do I want it absolutely full whack, for speed and grit useage.

80 percent air and 20 percent grit . with practice u will soon know if u have it rite.
