pressure wont build up ?

What will cause this, am i correct in think its either the piston rings or gaskets on the pump have failed if the pressure will not go above say 50psi ?

Just lookig at a compressor with the fault and its an Air Master type so parts should be easy to get from machine mat i should think.

Could be a leak, you need to see it running and listen for air escaping. Could even be a faulty pressure gauge.

Think i will leave it then. Its an ebay joby and a fair way off to pop down to test it and not bring it back.

Could well be the flap valves have seen this on a few compressors used for spraying with no or poor air filter.
The paint as dust packed around the valves stopping them from operating.
If this happens its a quick fix, just requires a good clean.

if its the one of his I,ve seen it has autobelt tension could be the pipe from the head to check valve thats a fav for covering up its tracks coz it only leaks when running

Well i took the punt in the end and got it for £30, the motor is good so i reckon its a bargain, If the pump is goosed then i have seen a 150l on ebay that needs a motor so i can always do the, if i win the bid.

This is what i got. I ran it and it did stop just below 50psi.

When it is running there seems to be a little air flow around the back and side filter area where the shield is.

I will investigate it more this week as got a lot on with the boat.

It fills ok and holds pressure fine atleast


This valve was in the first pic stuck at first and blowing air out. I just removed it a fettle it and it is ok now.

I had a look last night for service kits but i can not find any for this model.

It gets to 50psi and stays there but keeps running dos not cut out.

The valve just kept letting air out, it was running for near a minute and still let air out.

Which way should the motor run ? I cant tell if th air flow/draft is from the pulley, its bloody big towards what i normally see.

I had exactly the same happen to my, just over a year old, Clarke SE16C150 two weeks ago, got to about 50PSI and just kept on going but no pressure increase and no leaks as far as I could tell.
I still do not really know what was wrong with it but I hauled the head off and was expecting to see huge scores in the bores but they were fine. Valves looked ok but I pulled them off and gave them a clean anyway. Made some temporary gaskets from some cardboard and put it back together and it has been running fine since, I can only think there was something stuck under the valves although I saw nothing and they were relatively clean.
Keep meaning to order a gasket set, will have to get round to it as I don't think the cardboard will last too long.

There should be an arrow on the large pulley showing direction of location.

Is the air filter clean? Is there any sign of air blowing out of the dipstick/breather hole?

Compressor valves do accumulate a carbon build-up, if nothing else seems wrong take the head and clean the valves, note very carefully how it all goes back together.

Had the same with a mates, he had a wood machining business and his was very fine wood dust.

Just ran it quick and it runs anticlockwise, there is no filter in the box so i will cut another sponge up. It is sucking air in as i put my hand over the intake quick, not a great deal but then it is different from an car engine lol.

I will check more tomorrow as now i am intrigued as what is wrong with it.

I will check to oil filler aswell

I have a sheet of gasket paper somewhere. Does it need to be a certain thickness. It is what i got from the car spares shop a while ago when i made some for an SU carb.

Look for the arrow - it should be cast into the large pulley.

Just ran it quick and it runs anticlockwise,

looking at the fan anti clock viewede from the fan is correct not that it would make much difference apart from air flow

I think the big ends may have oil scoops so it would be important to turn the pump the correct way. Mine certainly has an arrow and they wouldn't put one on if it didn't matter.

Check the gasket between the top of the valve plate and the head, I have had quite a few of them go with the same symptom

I removed the head to find the gasket is goosed.
