presure switch

Hi, i've just bought two clarke tiger air 9/55 compressors (plan to run both together so i can run air tools) for a very good price of £70. But spupidly i didnt check them properly and they switch off at 60psi and cut back in at about 30psi even with the pressure switch thing set to max pressure. I know he did use them for spraying. If any one can help me it'd be ace.

Usually there are a couple of adjustment screws inside the pressure switch cover,One to set cut-out pressure and the other to set the cut-in pressure, Works a little bit like an over-centre toggle arrangment,

Not quite true, one adjusts the cut-off pressure, the other adjusts the difference between cut-out and cut-in.

Yes you are correct, But I was just trying to similify the explanation, I think the max pressure adjustment he talks of must be at the pressure regulator.

P.S. I do know a little about compressors,Both air and many gasses and hydrocarbons.Recip's,radial and axial flow, the last major compessor stream shut down I was in charge of was driven by 23,000hp elecrtic motor with expander turbine assistance.

That was my thought which is why I asked the question

It's difficult to know exactly what's going on when you haven't got the kit in front of you!

Right then.........I have taken off the plastic top of the pressure switch and adjusted the the nut at the top of it ( the one that tightens and loosens the spring). It does alter the the psi when it shuts off but only between about 50-60psi. I would post i pic but my 8 month old has just started crawling and has stolen my camera and stashed it somewhere!!!

Hi, Does your last adjustment apply to both units? It's quite a while since I had anything to do with these small control units, For the moment you will just have to try and figure out the adjustment linkage and try again, unless someone else comes along that can advise you further,

I just had a new variable pressure switch for my comp off flebay for around £23. Works fine, I set it to cut in at 70psi and out at 100psi

That sounds like the correct one.

Is the gauge you're reading from connected directly to the tank or to the output of a regulator?
