primer advice

I'm coming close to finishing welding repairs on my car but it might be a while before it gets to the bodyshop for paint. In the meantime can anybody recommend how I might preserve the metal and keep the rust at bay. I was planning on seam sealing and then primeing but not sure which products will be best for The job. Can anybody help please?.

you might get it cheaper .but epoxy is better to protect than the average primer.

Great results. Prime first then seam seal. Sikaflex 221.

Forgot to say it must be brushable and ok to use in a well ventilated garage with no breathing apparatus.

Is this primer ok to use in a well ventilated area without air fed mask, and does it contain isocyanate material?

Most two pack epoxies contain isocyanates. The Jotun stuff can be rollered brushed or sprayed. Should be safe enough if you roller or brush it ( still use a respirator though)

If I was in the UK, I'd go for the Jotun stuff as there is a seller on ebay based in the UK! Do a search on ebay for Jotun Jotamastic.

Another option is Lechler epoxy primer 29107. Just used it on my VW T25, I sprayed it though.

iso free , bought some myself this week

oh and if you buy it , take a look at the drying time for winter vs summer hardners , the winter suited me better as it works under 10 deg and generaly dries a bit faster

I guess if its iso free then its ok to spray without an air fed mask as long as you are in a well ventilated area?

Can you spray this no problem? And can it be rubbed down ok when fully hardened?

paints containing isocyanate as far as i know are safe to brush and roll its only spraying that is a problem as the isocyanate then becomes air borne and inhaled.

I'd be very careful if I were you, Iso paints EVEN Brushed on still emit the same nasties as sprayed on.

Even when mixing my 2k paints ready for spraying I always wear my airfed.

Does the Jotun marine epoxy advertised on Ebay contain Iso, and can it be sprayed without using an airless spray unit? Also is it easily sanded when fully cured?

if you look on some of the ebay ad's it states no iso , jota reccomend a airless sprayer but it would need to be a big set up as its fairly thick

it dries hard , you can sand it okay

i wear my safety specs as it can splash sometimes when pouring (new tins) but didnt think masks where necessary.

unless you have contracted an illness from mixing 2k without a mask you have no experience

you do have experience of being cautious
