problems with a snap on compressor

Hi,
I have a 230 volt 17a 200ltr air compressor.
I have a problem with it. It keeps tripping the motor trip out when its runnning.
When looking at it while its running it blows out air from the top of the head where you fill with oil.
I know this isn't normal or is it?
I have forgot the make of it so have no further info at the moment.
I'll get some more info on monday
Any help or pointers appreciated.

Hi the snap on compressors I have worked on have rubber seals where the cyl pipes go into the head and they go hard with the high temp strip out the pipe and the o ring will be hard just replace with a high temp nitrile o ring. It is poss cutting out because the motor is running too long before reaching pressure. and has weak'nd the trip.

They get tired rather than worn I did one afew days ago it kept tripping on startup it was just the trip BUT if it has leaks FIX them first! coz if it works you will just keep running it, If 2 cyl check the interconnecting pipe for leaks.

It is a 2 cylinder but no external pipes between the cylinders.
There is only a feed pipe to the tank from the cylinder.
The piston skirts are scored and the head looks gunked up.
But i can't seen to separate the head from the bore part, if that makes sense.

It looks like you need to be a bit more erm!, persuasive with it. have you taken any pics of it so we can see what you have got.

No not yet. I'll get some on Monday. We have a sparky doing some work in the building so hoping I can get my other compressor wired up. I posted about it before when I was rebuilding it.

Hi,
Sorry I've not taken any photo's yet.
The compressor is a Fiac, anyone heard of them?
We are looking at replacing the piston rings and possibly the valve plate to see if that helps.
There doesn't really seem to be anything wrong with it when you look inside apart from the valves have a lot of gunk on them.
Would this tend to cause it to blow air out of the hole you fill the oil up with on top of the head?

Are you sure you fill it through the cyl head it is normally on the crankcase ? they have a plastic cap to remove
I think you may have a problem with something on the head or where the main pipe connects as I have said they suffer from the o rings 'cooking'

Hi, Yes it fills through a plastic cap on the cylinder head.
Have spoke to Gary at Shiremoor compressors yesterday and he reckons we have done well to get about 10 years out of it and recommends replacing the pump, as the parts for the FIAC compressors are rather expensive.
Here are a couple of pictures as I said the other day.

Hi, A little update.
Have spoke to Gary who is a wealth of knowledge up at Shiremoor.
And he said my pump is shot, Fiac parts are very expensive so have got another pump for the compressor.
SO all been well i should be all fixed up tomorrow.

Hi,
Got the new pump fitted and running last week.
Its actually quieter than when the unit was new originally.
