problems with my sip compressor!!! HELP!!!!

I am the not so proud owner of an SIP 200ltr compressor that has recently run out of warranty. During the period it was covered by the warranty, it has had the following done......
4 yes 4 capacitors
2 thermal overload cut out switches
complete pump
new electric motor
new outlet valve with water trap and regulator.
I am on first name terms with the engineers who came and did all the repairs. The compressor is now playing up again. First pump up of the day is fine, it fills tank with approx 100psi, when I start using the air the pump cuts back in and tries to go back up to capacity but is thwarted by the thermal overload switch halting progress. For the rest of the day the machine will only run up around 20psi before throwing the switch. Anyone help PLEASE!!!!

do you have sufficient cooling for the machine ie not boxed in anywhere

no its not boxed in, and I have removed the lid of the plastic box that houses the capacitor and thermal overload switch. The unit is placed against the wall and the cooling fan is about 5 inches from the wall

Belt not tight enough? Electrical wiring wiring not beefy enough?

my landlord checked the workshop wiring for me and it is all up to spec. The wiring from the wall to the compressor is what came on the compressor so I guess thats right. I will check the belt tomorrow, the pump was only recently changed so perhaps the engineer didnt tighten it enough?

Sounds like the motor could be pulling excessive current, do a load current test to see if it's pulling rated current or less.

as you have had so much replaced and yet you still suffer the same problems you then have to look elsewhere for some sort of reasoning or cause so
what is the cfm of the machine is it too small for your needs
do the instructions show a duty cycle and are you exceeding it
is it a direct drive or belt drive machine

to be honest I am pulling my hair out with the bloody thing, a compressor of this size isnt cheap and I rely on it for my work. I have made enquiries with trading standards and they recommend writing to my supplier and claiming it has been sold to me and is not fit for purpose

Ok, I think some more info is needed. SIP 200 ltr is too vague to give accurate advice.
What is the CFM rating, motor size in KW, single or twin piston pump, how are you using it (continuously, all day, intermittent ??), model number ?

that's what to expect from a sip , it stands for s.ity industrial product . the best place for a sip is in the skip im afraid and let it be a lesson to you .

When it starts up to refill the tank does it sound like it is labouring ? There is a thin pipe going from the pump to a valve on the tank which dumps the pressure from the cylinder so it is starting up against no resistance and if this fails it can overload the motor. I've had a direct drive SIP for about 18 years now and it's not been overworked but it's never had anything but oil changes and drain down but I would seriously complain about the one you have being unfit for purpose.

You should hear a distinct hiss when the pressure switch opens, that's the air being dumped from the pipe between the pump and the tank via the thin pipe mentioned above.

Its definitely unfit for purpose. Youve been very good putting up with all the repairs as well. If you had been in touch with trading standards before they would have told you that three repairs would of been considered a reasonable number and after that you would be after a replacement. Youve had many more than that.

I would be ringing the seller up and telling them its unfit for purpose and you want your money back. Dont worry about it being out of guarantee as that is not applicable. They have accepted that there is a problem with the unit and fixed it many times. Now its broken within a short time. Then if they dont do any thing take them to small claims court.

Thank you all for your advice, I think the sensible solution is to go for 'unfit for purpose' via the trading standards. Question is, do I want a replacement or my money back? I had a SIP compressor (smaller than the current one) before that ran for years with no trouble at all, it eventually died when I increased its workload when business was on the up!

Then it was purchased unfit for purpose, not supplied as unfit for purpose!
