Hi all,
I have just re-read the paint tutorial section, I have read it about 4 times by now.
So I have made a list of the thing needed, and also on the step require, and I have few questions about it.
I also would like to share with you my project, as I have a lot at the moment I have about 5 project (It was only 4 this morning but I bought a another car which need respray this evening )
So let's start by the first one, the current project is a 924 which need a full respray, panel beating, engine rebuild so as the inside....
The engine should go to the engineering shop soon enough.
So I am left with some panel beating (I have a rough idea how to get myself sorted), and I will have a bit of spraying obviously.
I would like to start by painting the engine bay, for several reason:
1. It is more mistake friendly, I believe.
2. The engine is out so I might take the oppertunity.
3. I need to start by somewhere.
what do you think about my idea?
I have decided that I will spray with cellulose as it will more safe for me.
I have a couple of question if you can give me some answers it will be amazing.
1. The 924 is factory fully galvanised. If I use a paint stripper and strip disc to go back to the bare metal, could in anyway affect the galvanised protection?
2. In the engine bay, I have see a sticker saying that the car was factory paint with enamel, so I supposed if I want to respray it I need to either use a barier coat or remove the paint. What do you think?
3. In primer section of the tutorial, it is mention self etch primer and high build primer. It is also mention mist coast for the self etch primer.
I understood that the self etch primer goes first and then the high build primer but I have to said that I don't fully understand what is the mist coast and how it seat in primer.
Could you explain to me a bit more about that?
4. I suppose an anti stone-chip primer is a very good way to protect from rust as it is adding a sort of bitume protection on the metal?
5. Is the stone-chip primer could be apply with the spray gun or it is not recommended?
6. I am thinking about getting myself some air tool, like a orbital sander for example. I believe it will save me a lot of time.
Is wet and dry sandpaper are existing for orbital air sander?
Do you have any power tool to advice me on?
Thanks a million for you help and this forum/tutorial they are amazing.
