Hello, I've got a few welders that i would like to repair, one of which being a Cebora/Snap-On PROMIG 170.
This welder has had alot of use over the years and for some reason was put to one side and replaced, decided to give it a service and see if it still works and it did for about 5 mins and then the rectifier blew a few diodes.
I decided to grab the rectifier from a Sealey Super Mig 195 (that's also got issues) and give it a go, it worked but was lacking alot of heat/penetration.
Got hold of a used rectifier from a mates works welding equipment supplier, only a small one for probably a 130a machine or something and whacked it in but same issue.
Polarity at the torch/ground is fine and from memory something like 37vdc open circuit on the max setting. tried testing the outgoing of the rectifier for ac and got almost 60v although not sure if thats just the meter just playing with me or if there is a shorted diode in both rectifiers i've tried.
The supermig mentioned earlier has a similar issue and i'd rather not take the rectifier out of the only working mig i have to test the others unless i have to.
Have i missed anything simple? or is it likely i've been playing with dead rectifiers?
Cheers
