Pull up bar specs

A friend is after a pull up bar looking online you can buy one for £30 I’d have a crack at making one anyone got an idea of steel spec needed? 3mm?5mm? Box or angle?

Whatever you spec it in you will be over engineering it compared to an online one I’d think!

my mate pruchased one not badly made but it ripped the fixings out of the soft brick work in his gym

i put up something like this for a guy that he bought off fleabay

The fixings that came with it i wouldn't have trusted on a lightweight book shelf they were rubbish
I ended up getting some proper anchor bolts with a tube of resin fix,see the thing is it isn't the up and down movement/weight,its the side to side movement that loosens them over time,i dont know how heavy or big your mate is,but if i was to make some i'd go at least X4 their weight/size etc

I got one of the spans-a-doorframe ones with two threaded halves, rubber "feet" - goes up easily, comes down on your head even more so, propelling you backwards head-first into the wall...

Pair of gallows/chimney brackets (the brackets used to hold up chimney stacks when they take chimneys out)...there are always some on eBay and they are proper thick steel so good starting point I think as you don't have any worries about the weight they can hold.

Had a rummage and I might have just enough bits, piece of 50x5mm angle with 4 10mm holes for mounting to wall 300mm 40x40x3mm tubes braces at end 45degrees back to wall (needs some thought) and 32mm tube on the end for the bar?

Hmmm slow progress so far..... the actual welding will have to wait having a nightmare cutting and drilling the steel, my tool box was never designed for fabrication...... a blunt hack saw, a 4 1/2” grinder and single speed domestic drill isn’t making life easy
So portable band saw, chop saw, something else ?
