Pulley attachment method,

Hi, My 'new' little diesel engine has a redundant pulley on the drivebelt end. It was used to run a generator, but for me it's just extra weight and mildly irritating for some reason, so I'd like to take it off. However, I don't want to undo it and find I've opened a can of worms with the original pulley that I need to retain.
Can anyone advise how this might be fastened on?

Its a taper lock, take the two grub screws out of the fastening holes and screw them into the other holes , tighten and they will part at the hub

Remove the 2 grub screws... wind one back into the other hole and it should fall off

put some penetrating oil on it as well let it soak in before removal

it might need a tap to loosen it while you screw them in

Once the front pulley is off it looks like it is a short stub shaft bolted into the other pulley.

It also looks like cap head screws and nuts holding it on..... The nuts might just be used as spacers.

I'm on it now but of the two other holes, only one is threaded to take the grub screw. The othee is only half a circle, so I'll ignore that I suppose?

The outer pulley is going to go back against the engine , you will need to carefully wedge the tapered boss slightly to release it off the shaft, they are cast so will break easilyif you go too mad. If you want to keep it go gentle on the wedging

all the taper locks ive used were cast iron..never had one u couldnt remove.....
yes a great invention......shame they cost so much new but they are quick and easy.......
I'll buy any I see on car boots whatever the size.......
u know.....just in case.........hahaha

Yep, Cast iron. easily broken if somebody was to wedge them open too far. Even broken you can refit them ok if need be.

This one came apart sweetly. A bit of tapping and I realised the grub screw was free to screw in a bit more. I didn't know what to expect and it was quite amusing the way the centre just kept on coming. Clever piece of kit.
