pulley sizes

i want to put a motor on my beader as with amount of stuff ive got to do need to make it easier. ( kids want to build a locost.)

have a motor coming from a drill press that got knocked over and damaged.
i need to know what size pulleys to use get beader running at right speed.
if use a 3" pulley on motor and a 6" on beader will that give me half the motor rpm on beader?
or is it not that simple?

Typical bead roller die is what, around 2" diameter... circumference over 6" so 3rpm at the dies is over 18" per minute which'd be on the slow side for simple stuff with a fence but in the ball park for more intricate freehand work...

Commercial variable speed kit typically offers upto something like 40rpm

drill press as adjustable pulleys, am i better of using them?

What I have always done is multiply the motor rpm by the pulley dia then divide by the desired rpm to get the second pulley dia, eg; 3000rpm motor x 3" = 9000. 9000/1500rpm = 6" pulley. Works for me (",).
