Pump for power pack

Hi I'm sure I've asked this before but never got a proper answer so can anyone help haha. I have a 5.5hp gx 160 engine and want to make a power pack for my log splitter but am not at all clued up on the whole hydraulics. Im wondering what pump size would be OK for pressure I won't be splitting massive logs just small prob nothing more than 12 to 14 inch diameter but have been looking on eBay for a pump but no idea what would be any good. Any help would be great thanks

Have a look at flowfit website for an idea from some of the kits they sell. Your 5.5hp motor might be the limiting factor. A friend of mine built one and it was twice as good running off the hydraulics on his tractor as it was on a 6hp engine and pump.

I run mine of a power pack from a breaker, one of these

But it works better from a tractor. The spec should give you a guide

It's the speed you lose due to the flow rates, Flowfit do some two stage pumps which flow more more until the pressure builds so ideal for a log splitter because probably 75% of the movement is no load.

Since I got my power pack I haven't used mine on the tractor, even though it's slower I can stick it all in the trailer and take it somewhere.

Yes I have looked on flowfit they do have a wide range of pumps. I was thinking of making a screw type log splitter after this one what size electric motor is best for these as in power
