PVC conduit expansion ......

can I ask the resident sparks ...
Ok Imagine the scenario 3m of black pvc conduit on outside wall that gets full sun. Conduit is gonna expand should I fit an expansion coupler ( not that toolstation list them !). Or could I get away without glueing the conduit into the end box at one end ?


I remember my early days in my first job conduit to an outside light and first hot day and the straight run was like spaghetti


I had to fit expansion coupler in the middle .....

35 years on what's the best way ?

ive never had one expand. the reason it sags is insufficient saddles and the weight of cable and heat makes it droop cant remember off hand but saddles want to be about 2 foot 6inch apart or just under a meter

My saddles are 3 brick lengths apart , about 680 mm 'll give it a go as is then , cheers mike

Try have a little free play in the coupler?

But like brightsparks I've never had a problem other than insufficient clips

It does expand, but it needs to be a quite a long run to be noticeable and if you hold it with enough saddles it isn't an issue at all IME.

Mtt.tr. I'll leave room for movement in an end box at the light fitting end ,it's too an outside light and the blue engineering bricks were well toasty yesterday ! Doesn't help that I'd chucked the piece of conduit in a corner 5months ago , of cource it was bent , I need another length anyway so I'll put the new straight piece in its place (when I can get too the " tool station collection hub "as they call it .
