I have finally got round to moving everything round and unloading my power hacksaw, it's been sitting on my trailer for months! Just need to make space for it in the workshop clean, oil and adjust it then wire it up.

It is just under 500kg so I wasn't living that dangerously, I doubt the engine hoist has much of a safety factor.

It does look a bit silly beside the lathe! It's 9" higher than it should be as I had to fit some temporary wheels to move it. I'll have to make space and tidy up to get it in its new home, if I relocate the idler grease nipple it can go flush with the wall at the back.

No risk of that! The slides will get cleaned and oiled, the suds tank filled up, the lube oil tank filled up and she's good to go! Scruffy paint won't worry me!

I went with wooden supports at first but given the weight I felt steel was better. My castors are rated at 70kg each which is about right for a 290kg machine.

Interesting to see this gaining momentum. The castings really are quite different from mine.

I don't know that's a good thing! I'm scratching my head with the layout it's a lovely bit of kit that will probably outlive me but it makes me wish I had a barn not a garage!

The wooden mounts are only temporary, I had planned to put the wheels directly onto the base but they didn't fit easly and I need to get it shifted. I'll make some steel blocks when I get back to work and fit them flush with the underside without the wood or all the other bits. Progress is slow as I'm working on the house as well and sadly that has to take priority.

Well it's in it's new hole and the workshop looks like a bomb site, so plenty of tidying to do. At least it doesn't look quite as big now.

It seems you’ve both ends of the spectrum - overpowered and underpowered I know which I’d rather have. Need to get back into mine, took a bit of a break on it once I used it as a trolley for carrying the Bantam headstock!

I'm slowly cleaning it up and tidying up my embarrassing mess! The saw is in good condition under the muck, a couple of minutes with a scotch pad on the vice bed and it came up a treat.

They clean up really good. Slacken those bolts on the ‘vice’ jaws and slide them out. A blunt linbide scraper is a good tool for scraping out all the saw filings which fill that trough. Try not to get the stuff on your hands, it’s very prickly!
