Quick Regulator Question.

I ordered a argon/CO2 regulator from ebay,

The one the seller sent it just a CO2 Regulator.

Took a chance and it fits on the gas bottle, other than the guage having different readings on it.

Is it OK to use it, will I have any problems with this Regulator.

Dought the sell will take it back if has been used.

You can use it for argon its only the settings on the dials that will be out, you will need some way of setting the gas flow, so i would invest in one of these

http://www.weldequip.com/flowmeter.htm which you can set the flow of gas reguardless what the dials say. Failing that you could get yourself a flow meter that you stick at the end of your torch and get the correct flow rate

Check that its working pressure is high enough to cover argon. Co2 is only about 800psi & argon can be 4000psi.

If it's a CO2 regulator it shouldn't fit on an Argon mix bottle as it would have a female thread. Or is it a flow meter?

Its a blue regulator with just Co2 on it, fist on the argon mix bottle as does the outlet connection.

Think I will just buy a flow meter, to give me a finer adjustment.

I'd listen to Justme, the pressure differences are not exactly slight!
Yeah, I'm sure I'll be called paranoid,but in some cases, that can be a good thing!

Well I bought a flowmeter, set the flow rate, what happens now when I pause with the welder, there is a big pressure build up on the gun, when I press the trigger ,I get a big blast of gas, is this normal.

1) that's a pic of an oxygen regulator rated to 300 bar inlet pressure. As everyone has been saying it's important that the regulator is rated for at least the pressure that the cylinders are filled to i.e. if your actual regulator is 300bar then it will be, if it's 230bar and your gas cylinder is filled to 300bar then we have a problem

2) a slight but noticable pressure build up is normal since flow and pressure are two different things. Same sort of thing is noticable with say a garden hosepipe. If things are set wrong then you'll get far more pressure build up than you should... How are you adjusting the regulator output pressure? What output pressure have you set? How are you adjusting the gas flow? What flow rate?
