I followed your clue and am none the wiser. Please could you narrow down which page of the clue I should read?
R-tech sell and support rebranded chinese welders, one of the manufacturers other customers might have a spot and stitch timer function on their machines, if not like you say they could be future proofing the displays or buying them in from another company.

You need to put 100hrs of welding (loosing 5hrs every time you get the tip stuck)
Then "Level Two" is un-locked giving you the extra features.

If a mate has a new welder with a stitch welder set it to about 8 seconds for him.
it will drive him mad, when I bought my old Butters the guy who packed it did this.

I had my heart set on an RTech 181 but the more I look the more I am drawn to the 180 without all the clever stuff.
I am starting to think a pencil and sheet of paper stored in the wire compartment with the settings I need for the dozen or so applications I would use it for would serve me just as well.
It’s also a lot of complicated electronics that could go wrong, removed from the machine.

I have both on sort of "demo".
The 181 seems to weld better than the 180 for some reason .
As far as the digital display and extra electronics .
They have a 5 year warranty.
Total piece of mind .
You still have a fully adjustable MIG behind the Easy - Set .

You can turn the “easy set” function off, so it’s just a normal mig welder with wire speed voltage adjustment.
The easy set is a handy feature to have, it takes the guess work out if your welding different thicknesses of material.

I’ve never needed to use a spot / stitch function always done it manually.
on the old transformer welders that function was always the first thing to break.
I had to replace a Blackline so went for this mostly for the warranty. It is more consistent when stitching, a softer initial strike and ideal for thin stuff. Only tried it on .6 wire / 1mm under cars so cant comment on thicker stuff yet. Only 2 minor criticisms: the door can pop open when lifting it and the lack of a wire feed button is annoying when loading a reel (need to make sure the gas is off). Most of the cheap inverters have one so not sure why R-tech deem it unnecessary, at this price it should have one. I think the 180 is the same?

^^ you would just turn the gas off at the cylinder, then feed the wire through.

I wanted the 180, was offered a discount from someone a good year ago. Never used it as we had a death in the family and then I wasn't well.
Was going to use the code but I've lost my messages lol my luck. I'd fall in a bucket of roses and come out smelling of ****.
Still not finished my vdub. Getting to old to to be welding outside, been a shocking year with the weather.
