Rate my 'New' / 'Old' Compressor

In 1994 i brought an SIP Nimbus 25025, took it out of the box, switched it on to test it worked.

I then promtly put it back in the box, placed it under the stairs in the hallway and due to various reasons left it there for the next 16 years (just like my 160amp mig welder that i have mentioned in a previous thread)

Anyway i have pulled it back from under the stairs brushed the dust off and decided that i have had enough of paper pushing and wanted to get back to achieving 'something with my hands' and get a bit of satisfaction out of tinkering in the garage at weekends

I would appreciate any comments on the spec - ie is it much cop (case it will have to be on my part as i cant justify to her in doors why this is no good and i need a new one).

What is it capable of running from a diy/hobby point of view - spraying/ grinding/drilling/cutting etc.

Also i have 1 of the machine marts 5 piece kits (blower/spayer/inflator/etc) and was wondering what cfm i need to set the output of the compressor to as there is no info with them.

I have recently purchased a clarke air grinder and power craft air drill and an Aldi (power craft) regulator/filter/oiler so want to set the garage out 'properly' - all i need to do is set up the various airline conections to cover pcl and Power crafts 'no-compatible equivalent' and screw type connections

(funnily enough The compressor was listed on the 'grounds for divorce' application that my ex-wife took out at the time)

Well, it's all pretty obvious really !
Little hobby compressor, 5.5 CFM FAD at 8 bar, although not indicated in the spec, it will have a duty cycle somewhere around 30-40% on, 70-60% off.
You could use it for a blow gun, air ratchet, limited impact gun use, small area spraying, air rivet gun, air nailer, etc. Forget any DA use, spraying a whole car and other such ambitious stuff !
I would suggest the first time you power it up, get it upto operating temp, that is the crankcase at least upto the temp of a hot bath, and change the oil.

Thanks for the reply - it was just the type answer i was looking for 'this is what i've got - what will it do'
At least i have got something to work from now, now that you have explained it in laymans terms as before it was just figures for this and figures for that which didnt mean a great deal to me

No worries, your welcome.
Need to make 1 slight correction to my reply, it's 5.5 CFM FAD at 7 bar working pressure. 8 bar is the maximum pressure. Just for clarity, FAD is free air delivered, in other words the amount of actual working air.

That was close - as i was reading your reply my first thought was "my god eddie49, the poor fellow has had 9 wives"

ps -dont know why she just picked out the compressor as one of the main grounds for divorce as the mig welder was sitting on top of the compressor at the time

Just a quick question

Just trying to compare 'my' compressor against the clarke range at machine mart, and based on the info below from their website, which figure on my machine specification corresponds to Air Displacement shown below

Is it Piston Disp CFM of 8.8 OR FAD, CFM of 5.5

I think its the 5.5 - if it is why is mine so low compared to what looks a similar compatible 'hobby' range

If those figures for the other machines are DISPLACEMENT, then yours is closest to the Rebel 60 110V version as it's 9 CFM at 8 bar, yours is 8.8 CFM DISPLACEMENT at 8 bar.
Actually that is meaningless, as the displacement is not related to working pressure.
Think of a car engine of say 1998 CC, that capacity is the same regardless of the power it develops.
You need to compare the FAD specs.
