Rate my welds :)

I am new to this forum, but I read it alot, and decided to post my welds, since I am learning to weld. Tutorials from your site were a good start, I thank you very much for them.

I welded this welds with an inverter, with E7018 3,2mm at 130A. Steel is 4mm thick.

So, here are the pictures, if you can, please tell me if I am doing it correctly:

in my opinion i have had a year and a half at my local tech at night classes and those welds is much much beter than mine lol nice welds and goodluck

what prep did you do? any bevel?

no bevel, 0-1mm gap, the only wierd thing was very little slag, I know that 7018 has iron powder inside but still only 1mm slag thickness. Is that OK?

i think the iron powder adds to the filler material not the slag quantity, as long as there is some slag covering the weld i doubt it matters how thick it is.

You need something to etch the test pieces you have cut if you want to see the penetration but the welds look good.

Got my acid, so here is the picture of the welds, it would probably look better with good lighting.

That last one looks like some of mine - the gap has closed up before the weld could penetrate. I guess it's down to how well you tack it before starting the root pass. I've now started putting a couple of stubs of old rod in the gap to stop it closing up when I tack it, then pulling them out. Now I'm getting much better joints. There's probably a more formal way of doing it, but that works for my practice purposes for now.
