Re-galvinizing galavized items.

As the title says, is it possible to re-galvanize items that have already been through the process acouple of years back?

Yeah, it can be done. They dip the item in the acid bath which disolves the coating before regalvanising. It takes a long time and creates some nasty fumes. They seem to dip the item in the galv bath first to help with the stripping process.
They hate doing it because it creates some horrible by-products, takes ages and causes contamination of the zinc and acid.
They charge a fortune to do it.
Avoid it if you can!

Hmmm, is there anything to make the items have a similiar appearence to freshly galvanized stuff?
Because I'm trying to put the 'old' items which have weathered due to time along with 'new' items to complete a kit so they would look uniform!

u can get cold galve paint in aerosol cans but it depends on how much your doing

That won't make it look like galv, it'll just look like it's been painted with primer.
I'd say short of having it re-dipped, Brightspark's suggestion would be the most suitable but as he says, it depends on how much needs doing as those cans aren't cheap.

Rub with wire wool.
There are big variations on brightness of newly galved stuff anyway. They put 'galvbrite' in the molton zinc - basically aluminium to make it a brighter finish. If they put to much in you can see yer face in it

Re-galving is common among Landy folk, but as there's a minimum weight / cost often a few folks get together to make up the load.

I used to work for a company that had the largest galvanising tanks in the country [alas now gone the journey] & if we had to do any alterations afterwarde ie cutting & welding etc we used to use ''drygalv'' painted on, the tins were really heavy, you could tell it was done though but it didn't matter much as it was primed with calciun plumbate primer then,there's probably better primers now, you can paint straight on to new galvanising with shipleys hi build vinyl paint.

it paints stait on new galve no primers nothing excelent stuff i got sum given and painted gates with it years ago and its fine

shipley paint goes under manor coatings its called high build vinyl under gates and railings
