Reccomend me a small chainsaw

Following on from the issues with my large chainsaw, it brings forward my plan to get a small lighter one for hedge work. can you reccomend me a small chainsaw for lighter limbs that will cope with a fair bit of hard work?

That looks like the Sanli cs45 I’ve owned for 4-5yrs, replaced the 18" bar with 15" runs very strong.

Lidl are currently selling them, with 3yr warranty 80quid

Got any makita/dewalt/bosch cordless gear.
Might be worth looking at cordless for a small saw.

I bought a Husky 353 about 10 years ago, been a great wee saw that has been used far beyond its capacity. I paid a bit extra for something semi professional and it has lasted well, i have a woodburner and usually cut my own wood, has sliced up 3 foot diameter beech trees.

I bought a cheapo chinese saw for taking down a larger tree and though it feels cheap it still works fine 3 years later https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401531679069?ul_noapp=true, does not feel anything like the quality of the Husky and is only for occasional use. I would go for a small Stihl or Husky semi professional if I wanted something for hard work.

for small stuff inch think unless its tuff stuff i use the cropers i do have a electric chain saw thats not that bad cuts fairly easy but not quick up to 3 inch stuff

depending on how much im cutting depends on what comes out a branch or few limbs electric an 20 mins work or more the petrol

I have a cheap one from screwfix that does the job nicely. It was just under £100 when I got it a couple of years ago.

Just to give a better idea of the work it would do, By small limbs I would mean 3-5 inch diameter. We have 12 acres and a fair bit of hedge and number of trees to maintain so i’m inclined to definitely go petrol with this.

Husqvarna all the way. The smaller ones are Incredibly light.

Both at work and at home my go to saw is a Husky 550xpg. It’s a fantastic saw that is really reliable.

At work we also run Husky 535i xp battery saws and they are surprisingly good, plus extremely light and quiet.

Ive got a Bosch electric 240V and its great....for what I want.....easily cuts logs 6 or 8" diameter,,,,even does big logs but they take a bit longer....I was pleasantly suprised when my mate recommended one....I had a petrol but Ive given it away

Dad got a battery powered Husky a few years ago and swears by it. He hasn't picked up the huge Husky since. No bother with mixing fuel and quiet so no need for ear muffs at all. A single battery does him a day of use when he's trimming hedges and rebuilding fences on the farm. No issue with it idling either. That and the 4ft circular saw on the back of the tractor are the only thing he uses now.

I'll try and remember to find the model when I'm down next weekend swapping engines.

I’ve had a mains-powered Titan (under £50 from Screwfix) for about 7 years, plenty of power, excellent for cutting up logs, etc.

Recently moved to a place where trees are all about 50 yards from any power point, so I bought a Stihl cordless (list price £249, local dealer gave me 10% off). Not particularly powerful, no use trying to dig into the timber and heave the saw round, but it easily cuts through 8” diameter hardwood if allowed to go at its own pace. Very compact (12” bar), light as a feather, no stink of petrol so it should be ideal to put in the boot of the car when the gales blow.

I have a small Stihl for light stuff and I've had no issues with it.

I think with 12 acres, an electric saw is out, unless nothing much grows there, and you need a generator in any event,
a cordless wont be much good either, half an hour cutting, change the epensive battery, and charge the other one a bit
with your generator.

Have no link to the Echo, but owned one, the power head weighs only 8.8 lbs, they take a minute to warm as they have a cat in them,
the Makita may warm up a little faster, the Makita chain is not good so would need an immediate upgrade, keep it for spare or fine for cutting bushes, the Echo has a good Oregon 91 vxl chain that fits both these saws, check the link count though, I think the Echo is 53 and the Makita 52.
The next size up in the Makita, also available at the above link with a Sixteen bar is a real good saw in that size, you can also cut the cat out of the exhaust with relative ease on that one.
