Back in 2000 I was made redundant from Eaton Hydraulics in Glenrothes when the factory closed down. I purchased quite a few tools from the old experimental department including this vice./ Eaton bought the factory from Cessna Fluid Power who set up back in 1964, so am not sure of the exact age of the vice, but thought it nice as a memento of my time there. It is in regular use every week and never serviced:
So started with a strip down and wire brush
negligible wear on the key parts just the marks from years of abuse:
Cleaned up the shaft:
A coat of Roundel blue
rebuilt with the moving parts coated in fresh grease:
Hopefully good for another 50 years:
