recumbent tandem

hi i am new here hitachimad told me about the site. great insigth to welding.
i am try to start a project a recumbent tandem . it is for my son who has cerebral palsy.

i need some help i found a donar bike made from Hi tensile steel with square to round tube profile. can i weld any steel with this. want to try mig welding and have practice first and would be greatful for any help

hi hitch,
on the weekend i am picking up a recumbent with to wheels at the front. it is made from steel the seller said. so i want to join a hi tensile steel frame to it after making a few cuts. will keep you up dated with pictures to pick your brain.

The recumbanat project looks excellent. What sort of high tensile tubing do you have - presumabaly some sort of Reynolds tubing? Do you have the number?

Bicycles tend to be quite highly stressed (I had one with metal fatigue once, though it had done thousands of miles). Pays to get the welding and metal selection right with that sort of thing.

If you need some plans, Greenspeed sell a set of plans for the GTT, they also sell tube kits IIRC

The hardest part is getting the steering geometory correct, kingpin angles need to be very precise for decent handling.
