Removing a couple of radiators, is this PEX or PB

I'm planning on taking out a wall that currently has a radiator on each side so need to remove them. I haven't done any serious plumbing since the early 80s and it seems like things have moved on.

Reading up indicates there are two types of plastic pipes, PEX and PB, I was just about to buy a bunch of JG speedfit end caps from screwfix when I thought about the pipe type. Do I need to worry about the pipe type or will these end caps work on either?

Are the insers also compatible or specific?

Here is the view from under the floor of the connections to the radiators. Unfortunaterly I wasn't thinking about the pipe type when I was under the floor.

They are Hep2o elbows, not sure on the pipe

They're supposed to be de-mountable, lots of vids on YT to tell you how, just replace the elbow with a Hep2o stop end. Insert should already be in the pipe.

If I read this correctly, the OP is removing radiators permanently, not just temporarily during redecoration?

If so, surely feed and return (or onward flow) need to be connected together otherwise there will be various dead legs and the system will be impossible to bleed in the future...

No, do not do this. It will act as a bypass and cause issues elsewhere

Dead legs apply to hot and cold water, ideally they should be cut back to the tee and capped but not critical on central heating systems

Ideally they would be removed back to the main flow and return pipework.

I think connecting them together would result in diverting the majority of the water flow through this connection and severely impact the performance of the rest of the system.

I hate plastic pipes I’d rather go with copper, my brother had his ceilings replaced 3 times because of plastic joints giving way I think it’s from being pressurized and releasing over a period of time basically hammering it causing it to fracture.

It could be, or it could also be a poor standard of workmanship when it was installed.

Looks like brass compression fittings are cheaper so i will go with these with inserts.

Ive never had a problem with plastic but always used the well known brands, used it many times for full heating systems when thats what was asked for without any problems
Copper doesnt always mean better as there is a lot of imported tat about which doesnt last

buy wedensbury pipe then and you know your not buying crap. id never use plastic no matter what the cost of buying or its installation cost

You can buy a bag of Hep keys from screwfix for about £2. Makes demounting them an absolute piece of cake.

They aren't the easiest ones to release without the right tool. Poking with a screwdriver works, but easy to damage the fitting.

Job done, I released the pressure from the system, closed off all the radiators, got everything to hand as well as a bucket. Cut the first line close to the "T" and put my thumb over the end, then fitted an insert and brass compression fitting end stop, lost about half a pint. The other 3 were easier, virtually nothing dripped out.
