Replacing air valve on my Sealey Compressor

Hi there,

I have a Sealey Compressor 50ltr V-Twin Direct Drive 3hp, Mod SAC5030VE and I need to replace the air valve that connects to the hose. This is probably a very easy task to accomplish, but I just don't want to damage the compressor by doing silly things. I was going to use a wrench and just undo the golden nut that is visible in the attached image and then fit the new valve. Can anybody help me confirming that this is the right thing to do?

Also, as you can tell from img 3, I have the other nut stuck in the hose, I tried taking it without much success, anybody has seen this before and can suggest something to do?

Can't see anything in that photo to suggest that it shouldn't go as you expect.

Looks like the brass section has sheared? Can't you just but a new hose else a female BSP to hose tail adapter, then just cut the knacked connector off the end of the hose and fit the hose tail adapter?

Thanks! I tried undoing the nut and it feels as if the whole piece wobbles a bit, I was afraid I was going to break it or something (counter clockwise no?)
Regarding the hose, yes, the male brass but has sheared (I did it by hand, still can't believe how soft/delicate that brass was), fitting a new adapter could be a good way to go! Thanks, I haven't thought about it, I will give it a go and send an update soon!

Aye, it should just be a standard clockwise thread, so anti-clockwise to undo. Just take it steady when you're fitting the new one. They're a taper thread, so don't overtighten it. It's easy to crack something if you go overboard on tightening. A bit of PTFE tape wound round the valve threads before you fit it if you have some wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks! I did it, all went well, just didn't add any PTFE tape to the valve, hope it will still be okay!

Glad you got it sorted. It'll be fine without the tape. That's one of things you can use or not. The taper fitting should provide a good seal on its own. If you do have any leak from the joint, just nip it up a mere fraction more.
