Replacing trailer tyres ?

I've got to put the tryes back on this monster sack truck, after fixing the punctures, i dont have any tyre tools, or bead breaker, whats the way to do it without swearing, blooded knuckles and loss of will to live ?

They are not thin sack truck tyres, they are heavy duty road trailer tyres, they are seriously hard to get back on.

Anything that size to break the bead I just put them in the vice and squeeze it shut. Get some proper tyre levers and swarfega round the bead they will go on easy enough.

Difficult to see from the pic, but do the rims come apart ? Some are bolted together with three or four bolts.

You probably won't need a bead breaker as those kind of tyres usually do themselves in that area once all the air is out.
If you do need a tool then the quickest both to make and use is a 2 x 2 piece of angle iron cut 2/3 inches long.
Smooth off the sharp corners and edges so the tyre doesn't get damaged and place a flat between the tyre and rim then hit with a good sized hammer.
Most effective method available and works on any size (I mean any, 6" up to at least 46"!).

For the levers you'll be able to manage with some small prybars or maybe large screwdriver. Those tyres tend to be a doddle, they're an easy size to work.

Here you go, my well battered piece - been used hundreds of times (was/sort of still am a tyre fitter).

I grind a little angle (don't make it sharp) which helps get it started on harder rims:

Then place it like so and hit with the largest hammer available and job done. Watch for it flying out if you don't get it quite right.
You want to hit the corner of it so it forces it between the tyre and rim, the bend in my piece is from missing the optimum point.

No photos of the broken bead but it's fairly obvious when it's done the job!

& for tyres that are stuck/rusted to the rim i just drive over the tyre close to the rim & it breaks the bead.

Not really, most small tyres take one good belt. Easier than winding a vice or driving over things. And neither of those methods work on stubborn tyres.

Some Land Rover and VW tyres were so stuck to the rim back in the 70s that a bead breaker would not shift them. I used to break them free with the piece of 2" angle and 14lb hammer. Never thought of Bill's good idea of sharpening the edge of the angle, just drove it in corner first, works on the very toughest of beads.

I've got them back on, two big screwdrivers and a G clamp, you need to clamp the tyre in where you start levering in on, so that both sides of the tyre sit in the valley on the hub.

My wheels are pimped and ready to go.

Yep, if you've got one. Except I'll laugh really, really hard if you find one it can't do, because I know for certain that my method will work
