Respiratory Protection For Stainless Steel

Hi;

I am just about to make some Cleko Panel Clamps and have a small sheet of stainless steel that I was going to use for the piece that slots through the panel.

Just read up again on the carcinogenic hazards when welding Stainless Steel!!

I'll be spot welding onto the end of a 5mm threaded screw and if I make the finger tabs i'll also weld spot weld aprox 5mm.

I'll be making about 5 Panel Clamps.

These are small amounts of weld but I would like adequate protection.

I have a 3M 7500 with two types of fume filter A1 and ABEK1 and P3 particle filters would the ABEK1 one be suitable?

Hi there the P3 filter offers the highest level of dust and particulate filtration for this type of respirator. This should be good for the small amount of welding you are considering. If you can combine this with the ABEK 1 cartridge then you have highest level of filtration for this type of respiratory protection.

When using any type of tight fitting RPE ensure that you have a shave to ensure that the seal around the nose and mouth isn't compromised.

To give you some reassurance I use this respirator fitted with a P3 cartridge when entering enclosures where asbestos has been removed, so you should have issues with welding ops.

And don't forget to use the same if you are planning to use a grinder or other abrasive technique on the SS
