retractable air hose

ive had one for a while, but proberly the last month or so its been leaking.
gets really bad when you pull all the hose out.

took the inlet pipe off the side and the seal looks ok
but put a new one on and it still leaks.

so thought it must be the hose then.
so i opened it up and uncoiled the hose from the reel to find.

8mm ID PVC air hose


quick release type fitting with seal




and ohhhhhhh dear..




guess i found the leak.....


now to getting it repaired....

crimp style fitting,
if i carefully dremel the crimp and open it up.
cut hose refit and get local firm to re crimp it ?
should be sorted then.......

a good quality jubilee clip will do if there is enough room

I've used swivel elbows as rotating couplings on a few jobs.

I would have thought you could grind it off and my preferred choice would be an O clamp or if space isn't tight a jubilee clip is fine.

well, why i was out and about today, i dropped my boy at work then nipped round the corner to pirtek.

well known for doing hydraulic stuff.

the guy put a new ferrule on it and crimped it for me.
then crimped a new O ring on the other end.

charged me £3 for the charity box.

8mm that might explain why my sandblaster never really worked well using the retracting airline

yer indeed. would of put a bit more in ,but only had £3 cash on me.

ive put it all back together and will test it tomorrow.

as i have 4 shed panels in the way and cant get to the compressor.

but the overall size of it wouldn't of fitted under the bench.

That's what got me thinking. How is air hose measured. I think I could buy 3/8 1/2 and 3/4 but not sure.

im sure places do 6mm, 8mm, 10mm etc. as ID size

i guess there is imperial sizes too.

usually 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 are the common sizes

measured as the internal bore

I've just changed my setup to 1/2 as starting to uses air tools more and a impact wrench just won't run off 1/4

I stand corrected. I knew the place I got mine had 3 options and wondered why I did not buy the biggest stuff. I have 1/2 inch so I actually did get the biggest I could.

So 22mm copper is a hell of a lot more volume. Super. ..
