RIP River Runs Deep (Rivs)

After the eldest starting to Loan Ebony back in 2010, I took on giving River the odd brush and hoofpick, and we bonded. After a series of unfortunate circumstances (divorce etc). We took them on (rescued them ) in 2016.

They’ve had the best retirements, but lost Ebony this time last year due to old age (29), and River had recently been off his food and losing condition. The vet did bloods and rang with the bad news that he was at end stage renal failure.

I took the hardest decision of my life that he wasnt going to get to the suffering stage, so last week he had the best last few days, lots of leg tickles and treats, and visits from a few people who’se lives he had touched.

He was allowed to pass peacefully in the sunshine having kisses off his dad.

Its a hard adjustment at the moment, its been twice a day at the yard for the past 7 years, and now going through the process of emptying stables, clearing tack out etc, Im sure it will get better but for now consoling myself that Ive done the best I could for the pair of them, and they knew they were loved dearly.

You're bound to miss them, I'm sorry for the loss you must be feeling.

Animals, work their way into your hearts and then leave you too soon. Never gets any easier but makes loving the next one a very happy animal.

I can imagine how you're feeling. I prefer horses to a lot of people. I used to enjoy being at the yard, even at 5.30 on a cold wet December morning. They were well looked after and loved.

River looks like a Welsh Section D - spit image of our Looby Lou! Horses take your time, your money and often other stuff too, but give you so much in return…

So sorry for your loss, but it also looks like you have many very happy memories which will live on for years.

Ebony was the welsh, River was an Irish draught who knew he was very handsome and loved to do dressage. Theyve both had very happy long lives with people who loved them very much

Picked his remains up today, Ebony was quite light, he is like 2 bags of cement. Found him some cow parsley, his favourite nibble (guzzle).
