Rising Butt Hinges

I'm told you have to chamfer the top of the door slightly? when fitting these hinges to clear the opening height as the door is opened.

Would this person be right on saying this.

Forgot to add....
Screfix are selling two opposing hinges ie a left & right hinge types....how the ruddy hell am I supposed to know which ones to pick for a particular door ie is the right hinged door from the inside of the room or the outside?

Yes, you should.

If its been fitted by a decent chippy, you should have a slight lead on the hinge and catch sides too, allows a nice close gap from the visible side, and a bit more clearance to allow it to oopen/close properly where its hidden by the door stop.

it would depend on the gap already at the top of the door, by the time the door and frame are about to meet the door would be almost at its lowest position anyway

here you go, stand inside the door-- the door opens towards you, if the hinge is on your right hand shoulder side,you want a LH hinge, and vice versa.

or stand on the other side the door opens away from you to walk through, lf the hinge is on your LH hand shoulder-- LH hinge

easy!! clearances and chamfer as previous replies.

forgot

sorry, big heavy clumsy things, but if the door has wee bit weight they tend to self close.

So, 3" for internal doors, used to be 1 3/8" now about 35mm

or 4" for old 1 3/4" doors, now about 44mm

Seems I won't be able to chamfer the top,there is only 1.5mm fire beading protruding below the door unless I take it off and replace with wider piece.

Intumiscent seal

HAS THE DOOR GOT A FIRE PROTECTION STRIP, SET IN A GROOVE, (AN INTUMISCENT SEAL) POSSIBLY WITH A BRUSH INCORPORATED.
MAYBEE 10MM WIDE x 4 MM DEEP. ??
FIRE AND SMOKE?? OR MAYBE JUST FIRE.
