Road Compressors

Hi,
I was wondering about getting a Hydrovane road compressor, my needs for air is intermittant, for a bit of blasting and paint spraying.
Although, I need a lot of air for some serious blasting equipment.
As I live out in the sticks and restricted to 240volts, i think this will bypass the 5hp motor limit.
What do you think.?
There are some tatty looking Hydrovanes on eb*y just now, what would you pay for them.?

Good idea, I know of a few guys that have done this with good results.
You would have to be cautious that you don't buy a money pit though, clapped out Hydrovanes are very expensive to repair. Make sure you see and hear any prospective purchase running properly before parting with any cash.

Why not look into getting a diesel powered one there are loads about EX plant,,,

tis true but they are the golden boys if you do grit blasting

ive never paid more than £500 for a 2 tool compressor. Find out what they were using them before you buy, if it was blasting all the time dont touch them as working open air ended does take its tole on them

if u buy one u need to see it working run it up to full power with outlet open for at least 15 to 20 mins then slowly close outlet to make sure the governors working ok providing theres no oil spray coming through the oulet hose and theres no boiling up of the radiator on engine or leaks it should be ok . most comps have an hour meter fitted so u can see what it has done

I'll have to be careful with what I get, I don't mind a project, but, not something that takes ages of time and wads of cash to fix.

anywhere between £250 and £500 quid for a used 4cylinder 2 tool hydrovane.
i have 3 spare hydrovane 66 units if anyone has one thats blown.
had a guy who was buying hydrovane s and putting the perkins 4108 engines in boats hence i have spare units

just done the same thing.

i probaly payed a bit much for mine but dint have very long in whitch to find one,

went for a Ingersol rand with a 3cly deutz motor dose 130 cfm @100 psi whitch will do me and been aircooled thers no water related hasstel
