Rod ID please,or what the hell are these?

Other day local scrappys rung me to say a holdall of welding rods here do i want them?
Yer why not have a look
Anyway most of them were 6013's of various sizes but were shot(got far to damp/wet over time.
But what was in this bag were 15 of these

They're 6mm 300mm long in a green coating and steel(magnet test)
Did a google on the name(thats all thats written on them BTW) didn't come up with much
so i thought lets dry them out and burn one


Ramped up the machine to 175 amps striked up very easy and burned quite well,had to keep it very tight arc though, thats on a bit of 12mm plate btw
Then a bit of 6mm pipe to the 12mm plate see how that went

Just a short run,but went on smooth
Now lets see how strong they are

Blimey,that was serious BFH and 7 blows to break that,you can see some of the pipe broke off
What the hell are these rods?
Just to add,some of them weren't worth using,so i thought i'll make up some hooks being 6mm they'd come in handy as you do
Well heated them up to a cherry red but when i tried to bend them they just snapped like they were glass,wow,strange?????????

So you knowledgeable old time stick chaps any clue what they might be?????

How does the puddle feel? Eg, does it feel like rutile/lo hydrogen/rutile cellulose?

Dare i say bit like a 7018,as said,had to keep a really tight arc,all i can note was i had to travel faster than normal

They are probably some sort of hardfacing or surfacing type. 6mm running at 175 amps is fairly low suggesting that penetration isnt good (which is what you want when surfacing). Green coatings tend to be hardfacing or stainless. The green pigment is Chromic Oxide so you wouldnt add it to Mild Steel as it embrittles.
Other than that Ive no idea. Never heard of BATEC nor TECSTEEL so its all guesswork.

Try a file on the weld metal to ascertain if it is indeed hard facing

Theres no point. Ive no means of testing these days.......without paying.

Ive been googling 8A TEC etc etc etc and I cant find anything remotely similar

Maybe they were made specially for someone (or just printed for them).

Its the core wire thats intriguing. Usually something that brittle would be dip coated but they look extruded. When they extrude the core wire is fed through rollers which are quite accurately spaced to allow one rod at a time. Cast finishes arent that smooth so they are difficult to feed and also the rollers can break them.

HughF suggestion to try a file is a good one

Ok did a file test,but to be honest i can't really say what i'm looking for,in the next pic i wouldn't say that was hard to file(bastard cut) but it wasn't easy

Here's the thing that gets me,this was done cold in the vice

But when you heat it up to say cherry red then try it just snaps

Notice the bronze/brassy colour
A right mystery,oh well,they're all wrapped up in plastic and put in a dry place for use whenever a need arises

Dont know if this has any relevance, a PDF document from a company called ATEC who seem to specialise in welding machinery (at first glance). Could be their own branded rods?
