as anyone made thir own oven for drying arc rods?

I once made one out of a biscuit tin, my rods were always furring up in the old damp workshop.
I put a bulb holder in the end and had a 20 watt bulb in, very amateur way I admit but the rods certainly worked better and stayed dry....used it for 3 years with no problems, think I only had to change the bulb once as well

We had a 4" square wooden box with an open end and the same set up with a 40w bulb in. The bulb was always on and in 5 years it never went off. At home now I leave my rods in the bathroom airing cupboard.
I was given a few Kg of rods, all 6013s, some Vodex, some Midweld (blue), some others. They'd all been kept in slightly damp conditions and one or two were showing signs of rust on the ends.
I put them in the oven in an old meat tin at 110C for a couple of hours, and they are fine. If you look at the data sheet, there are usually redrying instructions. You can overheat rods with a cellulose content and damage them.
I keep rods in the airing cupboard, but I only use 6013s. I've seen rods kept in a concrete garage and they soon became unusable.
If you are using lo-hi rods it's different. The damp becomes loosely chemically combined with the material in the rods and you have to get them to 350C or so to recondition them (it says on the data sheet) That's way beyond what a domestic oven can get up to.
