Rolling ball machine

Hi, thought you may wish to see my progress so far.

Alway fancied making one of these and finally got around to it , so out comes the box of scrap metal from under the bench and work began with no set plan. I began by twisting the brass around in a spiral to lift the balls.

The spiral is driven by a small motor and sometimes the ball get jammed and overloads it so I found a good remedy was to place a clutch in the drive mechanism. Anyway got it working roughly and dismantled everything in order to improve the way it looks.
This is it so far.

Nice one, how long did it take?
And how many revisions to get it to work nicely.
Dont let any children near it, it looks very damageable.
I take it this is the scale model, Lecky make some lovely 300mm balls.

OK I made a short video as it's not finished and still a work in progress, as you can see I'm turning it by hand . The track was fiddley and took ages, still not happy with it, but it works, just.

Made a support for the motor and polished it .

Good job truckdoctor, I liked Wilf Lunn as well but Rowland Emett beats him for me. I used to love watching his "The Featherstone-Kite Openwork Basketweave Mark Two Gentleman’s Flying Machine" in the Merrion Centre in Leeds when I was a kid.

Done a little more work on this and on the video you can see the clutch being demonstrated, this is just in case something might "jam" and overload the motor. the next job is to fit LED lamps to illuminate , and find a perspex case to protect it.

ebay 18 volt DC. Not sure what exactly is was made for, but it,s very powerfull, hence the clutch.

ive been trying to remember the name of that for years used to run every 15 mins always a crowd round it wonder what happened to it
