rose arch

apparently i need to build a rose arch for the bottom of the garden, to separate the nice looking flowery bit from the food growing bit. it will be 5' tall at the edge with a pointy top that will be around 6'8 in the middle, and around 6' wide so i can get the trailer thru for loading up the woodshed.

probably going to be made from inch box, but it depends what i can adopt from work

how far into the ground will i need to sink it?

your probs talking about a foot down. are you cementing it in?

I would cast 2 small concrete blocks into the ground with stainless bolts sticking up and bolt the arch to them, then you have the choice of distmantling for maintenance or access.

Except where the missus has grown roses up it & refuses to let anybody touch it (...on pain of death).

My arch has been in for about 5 years now, with Jasmine growing up either side (6'w x 9't). Even if the 4 x 2' anchors rotted away, it's not going anywhere.

it's going to have a trailing pear tree going up one side and some blackberry (probably) up the other. hadn't actually thought that the plants would anchor it after a while. time to go adopt some metal...
