Rotisserie Engine Stand.

I have a couple of engine rebuilds coming up, and though I have a conventional engine stand that bolts to the bell housing bolt holes, I have never been a fan of this design, I much prefer a stand that bolts to the block on either side using the engine mount bolt holes.

Has any body made one like this ?

I have seen a couple of stands on engine builders sites but they appear to be self build.

My thoughts are to get 2 of the conventional stands and just make a crossbar to join them together.

Has anybody done this ? or can you see any problems.

You may need to make adaptor plates if the mounting points are at a different height. Just a thought.

Yes I am sure different engines will require different mounting fixtures.
What I do not like about conventional stand is that you cannot mount the flywheel and check for run out and the stress on the back end (yes I know many thousands of them are in use without any problems)

It depends on how big/heavy the engine is but you can bolt the standard type to the side of the engine.

it also depends on how central to the mass of the engine the mounting points are. turning an engine over on a end mount stand can be quite physical. I would imagine side mounts could be even worse

Wouldn't suggest using the mounting blocks as they may tear or fall apart with tilting or inverting.

No you bolt direct to the block (You do not use the rubber mounts)

Just bought 2 secondhand engine stands of the bay so will see how it pans out. (I did not want to start hacking my geared head snap-on one about)

You could even make a full body rotisserie with them.
