Rotisserie Project, Guidance Required

Having an enforced layoff from heavy duties, I've started to plan, always dangerous I'm going to have a few months when the garage is out of bounds as far as getting anything done is concerned, so time for a bit of preparation.
My MR2 Mk1 is sitting stripped bare anything that could come off is off, engine/gearbox, fuel tank, radiator, suspension/brakes, bonnet, engine cover, boot lid, front wings, doors and all the interior trim are lying in various locations. It takes up a lot more room in bits!
The next step is a rotisserie to make life easier when it is time to do the underside, cleaning, repairing and painting. This is where I'm going to need some guidance, I've got a few ideas but no idea what materials I should be using. The car started off weighing in at 1052 Kg, I would think now I will have a max of 550/600 Kg to support on the rotisserie.
After hunting the site for inspiration and following countless links these blueprints from zzr1200 were the starting point, from a thread about an engine hoist gantry.


I thought it would be handy if I got 2 tools in one So here are some sketches put together on Google Sketchup



The A-Frame is all 40 x 40 x4mm box as are the 2 uprights that will support the pivot, up to the job?

The crossbeam for gantry duty, 100% knock off from zzr1200



The "saddle" that will drop over the 2 uprights and support the whole show, hopefully



I think that's more than enough to be going on with, all suggestions, criticisms and guidance gratefully received,

For the height adjustment I was thinking of either a hoist/pulley from top of A to the "saddle" or a farm jack to lift it a bit RAF* but should work.
As for the "turny bit" I'm struggling there a bit too. The tube going through the 100 x 50 should make that bit strong enough but the round bar on to the arm is a thought??? I have half an idea for that, will post a pic later,

I was thinking an axle (40mm tube)mounted on pillow blocks. then the turny bit frame welded to the end of that.
I think it will be difficult to get a round section to sleeve another round section without some machining.

then sleeve the arms for vertical adjustment

Are you going to put the frame on lockable wheeled castors so you can move it around easily.

For height adjustment why not a pair of 1 tonne car /van scissor jacks from the scrappies welded one at each end of the frame to the cross member, pushing up a tube within a tube that holds the rotisserie bearing device you should then be able to get at least 300 mm lift . Drill holes for pins so that once you get height you can pin it and take the load off the jacks.

For the rotation device .... four plates , 2 either end with holes in such as brake discs for five bolt wheels face to face , once the holes align bung in a pin /bolt at each end. weld appropriately to fix/set correctly .
Use a bit of drilled flat bar or angle bolted into drilled holes on the disc for the handle . you should only need one handle but I would put one at each end just in case you need micro adjustment alignment .


Oh and remember.... Especially on rotating shear holes " Never put your finger where you wouldn't put your most prized possession and I don't mean your Granada's gold Rolex ".

I'd go for a set of four swivelling lockable ones rather than two fixed and two lockables as the four swivelling lockables give you much better options for diagonal /side ways movements.

Yes I wouild use the sort you indicate but with the above rider .. why not contact the guy through his ebay shop and see what he has?

14 months and I am finally getting back to my project
Had plenty thinking time but now it is working time and obviously not having a clue I have some questions relating to drawing below.

I plan to use threaded rod to lift/lower the car to get the centre of gravity right for an easy spin, what size should I be looking at, I was thinking about 16mm 8.8 High Tensile?

To clamp the slider in place after adjustment, 2 10mm nuts welded to slider and 2 bolts to clamp slider to upright?

Planning to use 40 x 40 x 4mm and 50 x 50 x 4mm Box

Any input greatly appreciated, I'm afraid clueless is the only description when it comes to deciding what material will do what job.
I had looked at Leadscrew for the lifting have you seen the price of that stuff? Over a tenner for a nut! I guess threaded bar will wear but it only has to go up and down once, will spend all of the time clamped.

My mates got one of these buried in his nans shed that iv just bought, soon as i get it i'll stick some pictures up. I think its just a simple triangle based design, and supported his AE86 with no probs.
