Rubber or rubber alloy (tpe) air hose??

Hi all,

I'm new around these parts so please be gentle with me!

Looking to buy a new 3/8" / 10mm ID air hose in a 15m length. There's huge availability online but I don't want PVC or anything cheap as I want it to last a while and also be nice and flexible in use. I would love to justify buying 'Codeflex GP1' by Copely but that's just too pricey for my budget.

My question is as the title really. Just seeking opinion as to which is the more flexible in cold weather. From what little I know the rubber alloy hoses will offer a little more longevity than plain rubber (i.e. less prone to cracking) but are they as flexible?

captain - those are both 8mm ID from machine mart. I also read that rtbcomp mentioned MM hoses weren't the best quality.

I have some of this which I have to admit has had very little use over a 10 year period. But there's no cracking in it all and it's fairly flexible when cold..

But I was also looking at some of this for when I need some more.

your main hose wants to be 10mm and go for a decent make. i got all of mine for nowt from a chemical works so cant tell u on the make .shorter tails can be 8mm

Only just seen this thread revival - sorry!

I've still not purchased but from what I've learn't since originally posting this message I no longer want 'rubber alloy' (which is essentially a rubber / plastic hybrid) as its generally not as flexible.

Goodyear make excellent rubber hoses which are widely available in the USA and priced very fairly but are sadly not available over here it seems without paying ridiculous postage / import duty charges. One of these would be my first choice.

anjum - eToolsCity are based in California, USA. In my search I've seen their goods (including Goodyear hoses) on Amazon before now but the delivery charge of £3.99 seems to good to be true (IMHO).

Also upon arrival into the UK, VAT becomes payable at 20% on the total import cost (item + delivery charge) and with a further handling charge to the tune of £8 to £12 applied by Royal Mail or whoever else processes it. All this makes it uneconomical to import which is a shame.

ps: that hose is actually red not pink!

Doesn't say anything about import tax etc on Amazon. I must admit I've only bought cd's from American sellers on Amazon.
Might be worth checking with Amazon as they seem to be good at avoiding taxes!!
Or just order it and complain afterwards if you get stung for import taxes!

Don't hold me to this but I THINK the import charges only really come into effect depending on how much you spend. For Example if you spend below £50 you may not incure the import charges. I think there is a ceiling level.
