Running DA sander from 3hp compressor

Ive got a Sealey 150litre 3hp compressor second hand to do some spraying. I need to strip back the paint so am looking to get a DA sander.

Is a 3hp, 9.7cfm FAD enough to run a DA sander? Probably won't be doing it all day.

Not sure whether it's worth paying more for an electric sander.

Get yourself an electric DA they are cheaper to run and although a 3hp will run an air DA for a while if you have a lot to do you will be having to stop to wait for pressure to build every so often

I run mine ona 14cfm comp it can hold it at 50 psi no probs and the sander is a decent one and dontuse a lot of air but a cheapo one seems to use loads

I'll probably get an electric then, more convenient to use in the house for diy at least.

Personally I would try and borrow a DA and give it a go. An air powered DA is more durable than an electric one,cheaper and safer. Most of them have a flow control knob on the side and with it turned it will run fine. If this is for a one off job you won't have issue, if you plan to be doing more then you need to be looking at bigger compressor anyway

The issue is overrunning the compressor because they normally have a duty cycle, 50% ish not so much the motor more the compressor head if it is running flat out you might have to improve the cooling significantly ie forced air blown over the compressor, if i use my dia grinder on the small compressor for any length of time you can 'smell' the heat from the pump. When you enter the compressor room.
