I was using a spot welder to weld the inner wing to the C post. During welding I noticed a strange smell out of each weld and the spot seemed covered with yellow stuff. But I didn't stop to take any action (That's STUPID!) After one day, rust appeared and it looked like it formed on the areas that some kind of vapor had swept over. Colour turned to be dark red before I realised it's rust actually.
More desperately it seemed rust had also come out from between the wing and post! And the post itself is double skin structure, so, actually the three layers have now been hosting a lot of rust that no way i can reach and remove...
I didn't take picture of the rust before I used FE-123 on it. but you can still see roughly what it looked like by the shape of the converted black stuff.
Treated surface rust:
Seen from other side:
I suspect the spot welder tip was contaminated by something that day, probably the old yellow seam sealer on the car.
Any ideas? Please help...I've spent a few months on this project and now feel my effort was pointless. Frustrated and tired.
